Collaboration Support
The trans-disciplinary field of regenerative medicine requires new ways of developing innovative research concepts and approaches. BioThinking is a unique program using design thinking as an innovation driver in biomedical sciences. It supports teams of scientists in structuring their collaborative work and developing their new research direction they want to establish with the help of the ECRT funding.

BioThinking
There is a growing need for innovation and interactions across disciplinary boundaries. BioThinking, developed by the BSRT in cooperation with HPI D-Scool, provides a unique program using design thinking as an innovation driver in biomedical sciences. It supports teams of scientists in structuring their collaborative work and in developing the new research direction they want to establish with the help of the ECRT funding.
Design thinking provides a solution-based approach to solving problems by strengthen collaboration across disciplinary boundaries to develop innovative ideas in all areas of life. It is based on the assumption that true innovation can only take place when strong multi-disciplinary groups create a common culture and explore different opinions and perspectives.
BioThinking includes
- A structured process based on understanding and analysing a problem, identifying needs and prototyping for early testing and feedback.
- A dedicated coach who fosters the collaborative atmosphere by using teambuilding methods throughout the innovation process.
- Flexible spaces to provide the team with a creative environment.
Collaboration Support with BioThinking
Below are different options how the BioThinking coach can support a team in their collaborative research. These option are only suggestions and they can be redefined and modified during the kickoff meeting in accordance to the requirements of the team.
The ECRT funding schemes offer BioThinking vouchers to hire a BioThinking coach to support the collaboration meetings. Scientists within the BCRT/BSRT/ECRT network who are interested to receive BioThinking support but who have no BioThinking voucher can contact the ECRT coordination office for assistance.
